For decades, the world has known Bahia mostly through Salvador's carnival and Trancoso's beach pages. But the real coast — Boipeba, Itacaré, Maraú, Caraíva, Itaúnas — has remained stubbornly, gloriously off the radar. There are reasons for this. Few of these places have major airports. Most don't have luxury chains. Some don't even have paved roads. Getting there takes effort. Knowing where to go takes a friend.

What AskBahia is

AskBahia is a bilingual travel platform for the Bahia coast — written in Portuguese and English, designed for travelers who want depth over checklist. We cover 16 destinations and counting, from the well-known to the still-unwritten, with editorial guides on where to stay, where to eat, what to do, and the small things that locals know and guidebooks miss.

Our concierge — yes, the conversational one — knows every beach, restaurant, and pousada we cover. Ask it anything: where to find the best moqueca in Itacaré, which natural pool to visit at low tide on the Maraú Peninsula, where to take a quiet anniversary dinner in Trancoso. It answers in real time, with map pins, ratings, and photos, and quietly builds a trip itinerary as you chat.

When you're ready, you can share that trip — a single page with the map, the places, your notes — with whoever's coming with you.

The voice we're after

We grew up reading the great travel magazines of the 90s — Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, the Brazilian coastal titles that first made us dream of places like this. We loved them because they trusted the reader. They didn't list ten things to do in a place; they sent you to the right one.

That's the bar we're holding ourselves to. Authority and warmth. Specificity over hype. The voice of a friend who has been everywhere on this coast and will tell you, honestly, where to go and where to skip.

What's coming

In the months ahead, you'll see this site grow.

New destinations will surface — Boipeba's village rhythm, Caraíva's no-electricity romance, Morro de São Paulo's reinvention. Themed collections will arrive: best beachfront pousadas, best chef-driven kitchens, best places for a slow honeymoon. The concierge will get sharper as more places come online and more travelers ask it harder questions.

We're also building something that goes a step further. Property-scoped concierges — so if you're staying at a specific pousada or beach house, you can ask AskBahia questions about that neighborhood, with the kind of hyperlocal insight that usually only comes from a host who has lived there for years.

AskBahia is built by a small team that splits time between the United States and Bahia. We use AI thoughtfully — to surface places, to keep our content fresh in two languages, to build itineraries on demand — but every editorial choice runs through human judgment. Recommendations are made because they're worth making. There's no pay-to-play here. There won't be.
